DESCRIPTION

Tiahuanaco, located 20 km south of Lake Titicaca in Bolivia, was the capital of the Tiahuanaco culture and is an impressive archaeological complex. Notable structures include Kalasasaya, Puma Punku, the Gate of the Sun, and the Akapana pyramid, which served as ceremonial centers and residences for the priestly elite. Although many buildings have not been preserved due to the harsh climate of the high plateau, the remains demonstrate a high level of technology and advanced architecture, as seen in Puma Punku, where the stones are almost perfectly carved.

ITINERARY

In this private tour, our guide and transport will pick you up from your hotel in La Paz, and we will head to the mysterious ruins of Tiwanaku, located southeast of Lake Titicaca, 70 km away, with a journey lasting approximately 2 hours via paved road.

Upon arrival, our first stop will be at the Tiwanaku Site Museum, where we will appreciate a collection of lithic stones and ceramic pieces discovered in the area. Among the most common are the Keros ceramic vessels that were ritually buried after ceremonies.

Next, we will visit Puma Punku, a mysterious and enigmatic site, and continue with the tour of the Tiwanaku Archaeological Complex to visit its temples, including Kalasasaya, the Akapana Pyramid, the Bennett Monolith, the Gate of the Sun, and others.

Tiwanaku was inhabited between 2000 - 1500 BC as a small agricultural village, but it was from the year 300 AD that the Tiwanaku state became an administrative center and a place of pilgrimage.

Afterwards, we will enjoy a typical lunch at a tourist restaurant. Following lunch, we will return to La Paz and transfer you back to your hotel in the city center.
